Good design is the key to future competitiveness. At a time when product quality standards are universally high and costs have been driven relentlessly downward, design and improved functionality have become the most important factors in the marketplace.

Funded by One North East and the European Regional Development Fund, the network is co-ordinated by RTC North and supported by Knowledge House and the Universities of Northumbria, Newcastle and Teesside.

Intended to enhance regional companies’ ability to employ high-quality design, skills and processes, Design Network North works closely with other regional, national and international design projects, and helps those without access to the relevant design skills, achieve their aspirations for growth.

The network will support design projects provided by a list of regional and national suppliers and showcase the best of North East Design.

Design Network Partners

For companies…

The network invites companies to put forward ideas for new products which require help to get them to market.

Access design help: independent advice on solving design problems and where to find funding towards the right solution
Raise design capability: activity geared towards demonstrating the value of high quality design and raising skills
Project support: guidance on design issues, business planning, licensing, intellectual property or technical assistance
Signposting: brokerage of a range of other support projects and potential partners.

For designers...

The network itself will not deliver design solutions, so a key component is the enthusiastic support of a high quality register of suppliers

New business: deliver Design Network North projects at appropriate rates and work with the network to provide innovative design solutions
Visibility: through its partners, Design Network North will showcase regional expertise and offer exposure at a national and international level.
