An evening with David Bradley, star of Ken Loach’s 1969 classic movie Kes, one of the most iconic and impactful British films ever made

As Michael Owen, Founder of Newcastle based clothing brand Always Wear Red cycled through Byker in late August 2017, the young boy walking calmly towards him was unremarkable in every way – apart from the large, live falcon on his arm.

The iconic movie Kes immediately came to mind for Michael and inspired a fashion photoshoot idea that, in under a month, has triggered the creation of a unique team – Michael Owen, John Kirtley (Falconer), Dan Prince (Photographer), Ayden Kirtley (model) and actor David Bradley, Billy Casper from Ken Loach’s original 1969 film.
The heart of this event is of course an in-depth interview and Q&A with our headline guest, David Bradley. John Kirtley will be present as will his son and '2017 Billy Casper’ - Ayden. A real live ‘Kes’ will also be there.
Additionally, we will be revealing for the first time the main images, including the one above from the Dan Prince/AWR photoshoot that took place in September 2017, paying homage to classic scenes from the original 1969 film.
This is an opportunity to hear how David Bradley as young boy dared to dream of becoming a film star, how John Kirtley dared to dream about becoming a falconer when all around him told him he should not, how Dan Prince dared to dream about – and has now become – one of the most respected photographers in the North of England and how Michael Owen dared to dream of creating a fashion brand from scratch in his mid–40’s, something he has now achieved alongside actor Ralf Little.
