The North of England is becoming a Centre of Excellence for the development of subsea robots. But it's not without it's challenges, and the Dogger Bank development, one of the largest windfarms in the world will only increase the need for novel solutions.

But every challenge is an opportunity for innovation and great design, and we heard from businesses who are truly at the cutting edge.

Speakers included -

Mark Collins, SMD.

Now in their fiftieth year, SMD have been pioneers from the start, being the first to develop subsea ploughs, and continuing to lead the way in the development of subsea tractors, mining equipment and ROVs for multiple uses. Mark described some of their latest developments and give us a look behind the scenes at how they've remained at the forefront of subsea technology.

Andrew Ludar-Smith, Resolve Robotics

Based in Cumbria, Resolve Robotics develop systems that can walk, fly, swim, crawl or drive into the most hazardous and unwelcoming environments imaginable. Andrew talked us though some of these projects, and the challenges he, and his robots have faced.
