Livestream from Rise and Design: Applications of Immersive Tech - Friday, 18th February 2022

We've seen amazing advances in the world of immersive technology, in both hardware and software, but most importantly in new applications.

And this region is driving much of this development through the vibrant hub of companies and facilities we have here.

This event showcased some of that capability, showing you what's possible and how you could apply it in your business, whatever it may be.

And quite probably blowing your mind, just a little.

Speakers included -

Shaun Allan, XR Therapeutics

Shaun has been at the forefront of the immersive tech world for longer than he'd care to mention, and has worked on everything from games to road safety campaigns.

With XR Therapeutics he's applying that technology and knowledge to healthcare, and will share some of the projects they've been working on that allow people that have phobias, neurodiversities, and other issues to see the world in new and healthier ways.

Zaid Alwan, Northumbria University

The building and construction sector is a major contributor to climate change, with approximately 35% of global energy use and 38% of carbon emissions associated with buildings.

While 'operational energy', used to heat and operate the building is well understood, the concept of 'embodied energy' consumed during construction is more difficult to measure. The Digital Energy Estimation Tool allows this to be more easily visualised and therefore monitoring. Zaid will tell us how this was created and the impact it's having.

Tom Page of Cerberus Nuclear, who’ve developed an immersive training environment that allows you to ‘see’ radiation and understand where the hazards are.
