Rise & Design: Designing a Better Business

It’s hard to believe but the September event is our ONE HUNDREDTH Rise and Design. It only seems like five minutes ago that we gathered in the conference room at RTC wondering how many people would turn up.

Since then we’ve welcomed over 5,000 delegates from more than 1,500 businesses, to hear from almost 300 different speakers, who’ve given their time to share their stories with us. And let’s not forget the 4,678 bacon sarnies we’ve served up!

So to celebrate this milestone, we’ve brought together a small selection of the companies we’ve worked with over the years to tell you more about their journey, and the impact that design has made.

Speakers include:

Michael Owen, Always Wear Red

Following a successful career in marketing, Mike took the daring step of launching a luxury clothing brand, based on the premise that ‘Confidence is a Colour’. He’s partnered with TV stars, famous authors, award winning photographers and many others.

Bev Stephenson, North Chocolates

Everyone who’s tasted Bev’s chocolates knows how much love and care has gone int them. From her kitchen in Newcastle come such delights as Winter Nut and Berry, Orange Crunch and, my favourite Liquorice and Blackcurrant. Bev will take us on a journey through chocolate, including her latest range inspired by the Great Exhibition of the North, with branding designed by Newcastle’s DECIDE.

Kate Dawson, The All in One Company

From making a single onesie for her daughter, Kate has created an entire clothing category and now supplies celebrities, Olympic athletes and the Team Tyne rowing crew who are about to start their 3000 mile voyage across the Atlantic. Having achieved all this in ten short years, Kate will give us some insights to her amazing journey.

George Clouston, Arnia

We all know how important bees are to the environment, but George is someone who’s actually doing something about it. From a research programme at Newcastle University, Arnia now enable beekeepers from Newburn to New Zealand to monitor their hundreds of thousands of bees, ensuring they’re safe, happy and able to produce lots of honey. George will tell us how s he’s been able to create such a buzz around his product. (sorry).
