Durham University Offers Opportunity to North East business talent
Date of release: 09/Jul/2010
Durham University has introduced an initiative to support individuals made redundant or faced with reduced hours as a result of the recent economic difficulties. The Durham Industrial Bridging Fellowship Scheme is a knowledge transfer scheme which aims to work with regional businesses to mitigate and take advantage of the downturn.
The Durham Industrial Bridging Fellowship Scheme (DIBFS) offers candidates funding to undertake research and learning for periods of up to 6 months at the University in the academic department of their choice. The scheme is open to individuals who live or work within the North East and have been made redundant or are faced with redundancy/reduced hours as a result of the recent economic difficulties.
DIBFS aims to improve candidates’ employment prospects by allowing them either to gain an academic qualification, non accredited qualification (depending on individual performance and length of fellowship), or to pursue research that will be of benefit in the future. The scheme covers the cost of fees for fellows on the scheme and also offers them the opportunity to receive a bursary of up to £10,000 for a 6 month Fellowship (pro rata for a shorter Fellowship).
The Durham Industrial Bridging Fellowship Scheme is due to continue until March 2011 and Fellowships are currently still available. Expressions of interest are welcome from both individuals and companies seeking to take advantage of the scheme (though please note we are only able to accept one Fellow per company). For further information please contact Julianne Emborg or Katherine Heavey on 0191 334 4647.
